Paradise Run

Picture
What is it?

Paradise Run is part of a bigger registered charity called 'Rainbow of Hope'.  It exists to help the homeless in Cardiff in a variety of ways.  Paradise Run provides food for the homeless every evening of the year at 8pm, at the back of M&S in town.  As a Benefice, we have our turn to provide this service once every four weeks.

 Who's involved?

We have helpers at different levels.  Sylvia Watkins (St Luke's) and Siwan Mitchell (St Catherine's) provide hot food for about 40-50 people.  We also have people who go down to help distribute the food.  Other people make sandwiches.  Diana Morgan (St. Luke's) does the organising, publicity etc as well as being a volunteer.

How can I get involved?

We're always grateful for people who will make sandwiches.  The fillings usually contain something sustaining such as Cheese and Ham or corned beef.  We have to put the rounds into individual sandwich bags (health and Safety).  The easiest thing then is to put them back in the original loaf wrapper and label them.  This makes it much easier for the distributors.

Can I make a donation?

Yes.  The homeless people enjoy treats such as crisps and chocolate.  Money that is donated often goes to provide these.  Sometimes the money is used to buy drinking chocolate or contributes towards the cost of some of the more expensive hot food.

How much of a commitment is it?

As much as you want to make it.  You can be a regular helper or just help out when you want to.  For further details about the Run or for the dates of the next Run, contact Diana Morgan (02921 400 367, 07754179373 or diana_g_morgan@hotmail.co.uk)
