About us:

The Youth Team of our Benefice was formed in January 2015 as a result of a series of meetings and conversations in each of our churches in December 2014. It was felt that we needed a more coherent and inclusive approach to how we help and serve the young people in our area.
The team meets about once a month to consider different initiatives and events that might help support the life and faith of local young people.
If you would like to know or even to get involved please let us know (see contact page)

Battle of the Bands:
Canton Benefice Youth Team are sponsoring a summer Battle of the Bands in St John’s Church this coming July! Do you know any young musical acts? We are looking for bands or solo artists aged between 13-19. As a Church event participating bands should avoid swear words or crude subject matter.
The deposit is needed to avoid people not showing up on the night which is unfair on ticket holders who expecting bands to play. Deposits will be returned to those bands who give at least two week’s notice of withdrawing.

Youth Club:
We are starting a youth club in the first week of June. Initially, we will start with an evening in St Catherine's Hall (Fridays 6:30-8:00pm) and an evening in St Luke's Church (Wednesdays 7-9pm). In September we'll add to this with a Monday evening slot in St John's Church (Mondays 7-9pm). We are gathering resources and recruiting helpers at the minute. After Easter we hope to publish the programme for each night.
Both nights will be open access. The Summer programme ends mid July when we'll take a break for the school holidays.
There will be a small subscription charge which is to help us cover our overheads and pay for some of the activities and resources we'll be using.

Soul Survivor Trip - August 2015
Be sure to check out http://soulsurvivor.com
This summer we have the opportunity to join with some young people from Gilgal Baptist Church (Porthcawl) and Eden Church (Penarth) who are going along to one of the summer Soul Survivor events. Our Youth group from Canton will be able to travel with them by coach to both events.
Soul Survivor events are a chance to see different ways that church can be done. Soul Survivor is an organisation that aims to engage young people with the church, with Jesus and his gospel.
Summary:
Summer Conference, Shepton Mallet Somerset 21st – 25th August 2015
For ages 12+ The event involves a few days camping as a group at the Bath and West Showground in North Somerset. Every summer thousands of young people attend this event that includes worship, teaching, cafes, open mic nights, a market place, a cinema, dance venues, football, basketball and much much more.
If you are interested in coming along or you have any questions contact Sarah Burton (burton-sarah@hotmail.co.uk or 07791433525) or Fr Phelim 029 20210732 vicar@beneficeofcanton.org
The Basics:
Soul Survivor is a five day event where thousands of us gather together to journey with God.
The main focus of the events are morning and evening meetings where we spend time worshipping God with music, learning more about Him through His word (the Bible) and waiting on the Holy Spirit to change us and equip us to live lives for Him.
As well as main meetings and seminars we have a bunch of venues from chilled out cafes through to awesome gigs... it's pretty fun! Check the videos on the website (see above) for more details.
Where are we going?
Survivor is held at the Royal Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, in Somerset, BA4 6QN.
When is it on?
Week C: 21-25 August 2015
Arrive: 21 August – aim to arrive between 11am and 12pm.
Depart: 25 August – Everything has to be completely off-site by 10am at the very latest because Soul Survivor C begins a few days after and everything needs to be got ready.
